Frank and I made an appointment at friend night, he made reservation at a restaurant I was dying to go to and I could not be happier when he asked me out.
I dressed a little, a sweet skirt with an Ed Hardy coat, elegant but casual. I got into a cab and started picturing the scene of Frank and me sitting across the table, beholding each other affectionately. Then the rain seemed to come from no where, suddenly the city was shut in a world of raindrops. This did not bother me for I could get to my destination without walking for too long, however what happened later bothered me.
There was a traffic jam, we did not move for fifteen minutes and I was already late. The first real date and I kept Frank waiting. Half an hour later and still no progress was made, I decided to take my chance and cover the rest of no more than five hundred meters with my feet.
I held my purse above my head but it did not prevent me from getting wet. I should have brought an umbrella, while, there was no time for me to regret. A small number of people were exposed to the rain just like me and a majority of them had a shelter above their heads.
I had no idea how I looked when Frank saw me, not as elegant as I had expected.
"Look at you, you are wet. You did not bring an umbrella?"
"No, I did not and I did not know it was going to rain."
"But you can borrow one from others."
"Most of the people I met in the street only had one."
"Right, but why did not you chisel in others’ umbrella, it can be help. Your coat is totally wet; you want to do this sometime later?"
"No, no, I am fine, actually I am quite hungry. Shall we go in?"
Things went on smoothly that day and when I got back I could not get his words off my mind. There were plenty of people I could ask help from yet I did not, I would rather get wet than open my mouth and asked for help from a stranger. Was I afraid of being turned down or I just did not know there were ways out?
So, friends, when you really need help, don’t hesitate to ask for it from others, and please remember there is always a way out though it may mean chiseling in others’ umbrella.
